A mobile Unit was initially stationed at the Rural Health Centre in Akora Khattak in 1990.But demand for eye-care was so overwhelming that it was decided in 1991 to build a 20 bed (later increased to 40) Secondary Eye-care Hospital on land donated by a local
philanthropist Mian Hizran Badshah.
To cater the growing volume of patients, a larger waiting area, screening rooms, additional beds and canteen facility has been built. This was funded by Shell Pakistan & Pakistan Tobacco Company (PTC). PTC also contributes towards the expenses of limited cataract surgeries.
